4,600 Million Years Ago

We know that the Sun formed from ancient dead stars, with a giant explosion and became a protostar. This is where it flung out loads of material that then made up the planets. Earth was formed as a protoplanet along with another protoplanet called Theia, and their collision made the Earth and the Moon.

Intense heat with the rocks that formed the planet caused it to melt, and the molten rock floated on the surface while the heavier metals sunk to the centre.

As the planet cooled, it created the crust.
