54 Million Years Ago

Dinosaurs have ruled the earth for around 100 million years, going through three or four periods. They have now become extinct from the massive 6-mile wide asteroid that hit the Earth and hit at the Yucatan peninsula, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Several kinds of early whales evolve. Some spend time on land and in freshwater - others take to the sea.

Primates and other mammals begin to take over, and they have many characteristics that we know of today - the ability to hold things in their hands, opposable thumbs, nails instead of claws, teeth that enable them to chew, better vision, prolonged gestation periods (pregnancy).
